Nationally known for her lecturing and litigation, Ms. Calo is often asked to speak at national seminars, community round tables and by local media. She is also available to consult with and advise criminal defense counsel who represent a foreign-born defendant in criminal court in analyzing immigration law consequences, developing a plea bargain, or anticipating cooperating witness benefits from the Department of Homeland Security.
Ms. Calo lived in Puerto Rico for many years and grew up in New York City before establishing herself and her family in Tampa in 1990. She attended the University of South Florida where she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in International Studies before going on to complete her Juris Doctor at Stetson College of Law.
Ms. Calo is fluent in Spanish and is also proficient in Portuguese, French/Creole and Italian.
Ms. Calo is admitted to practice in the State of Florida, before the United States Supreme Court, the 11th Circuit-United States Circuit Court, United States District Court, Middle District, and has been a Notary Public for the State of Florida since 1996.
